Welcome to LAM Design. We offer clothes designed and made just for you. We use the material you like, the colours you prefer and styles to flatter. We make everything uniquely to order, and use the precise measurements of each customer rather than generic sizes. We look forward to welcoming you as a customer.
LAM Design is owned and run by Lucy Moore, a very experienced dressmaker.
Lucy was born in the UK but raised in the West Indies and later Zambia before returning to the UK as a teenager. Her love of sewing started at an early age as she watched her mother at the sewing machine making clothes that were hard to find overseas. Her mother was able to turn just about any material into the finest of garments and taught Lucy to appreciate all fabrics and gave her the initial skills to design and create wonderful clothes.
At about seven years of age, Lucy started designing and making clothes for her dolls. She then progressed onto designing and sewing clothes for herself and friends.
She had her first commission at the age of 15 to make a blouse and dressing gown for a friend’s mother.
Lucy designed and made her own wedding dress and bridesmaid dresses back in 1989. She continues to make many clothes for herself as she is a petite size and does not find it easy to find suitable clothes on the high street.
In 1997, when her children started school, she decided to start a full-time sewing business which has grown from humble beginnings focusing on waistcoats through to a focus on couture dress making of bridal, evening and day wear for women. She still makes waistcoats but these are usually as part of a complete wedding service or special orders that customers can not get from any of the many waistcoat business now online.
Lucy loves designing and working with beautiful fabrics. Her work is influenced by her exotic upbringing allowing her to range from traditional English styles to the more colourful and dynamic styles of the Caribbean and Africa.
Lucy and her mother still share sewing techniques, but now it is Lucy that is the teacher.
